Tooth Extraction in Matunga

What is a tooth extraction? – Tooth Extraction in Matunga

A dental procedure in which your tooth is completely removed from its socket is called as tooth extraction. If we talk in simpler terms, it is also referred to as pulling out of your tooth. It is a common dental procedure that is done under local anaesthesia by our dental experts at Dentarica Orocare. Tooth extraction is often kept as the last resort when all the other methods of saving the tooth have failed. Our Dentarica Orocare team ensures you are comfortable throughout the procedure, and all the sterilisation protocols are maintained while doing any tooth extraction at our centre.

When do we need extraction? – Tooth Extraction in Matunga

The main aim of our team is to save the tooth at all times. But in some instances, all the methods to save the tooth fail, and tooth extraction becomes the only feasible option for relieving pain and discomfort. Some of the instances are advanced gum disease leading to severe mobility, extensive tooth decay, and dental trauma beyond repair.

Sometimes, tooth extraction is done for wisdom teeth when it is impacted or causing discomfort in its partially erupted stage. All the extractions are painless in nature and done under local anaesthesia. No tooth extraction requires hospital admission, and you can resume your daily routine activities immediately.

Types of Tooth Extraction in Matunga

There are mainly two types of tooth extraction: regular and wisdom. Wisdom tooth extraction is generally a surgical procedure that is done under local anaesthesia.

Regular Tooth Extraction

When the tooth is completely visible inside the mouth, the type of extraction performed is called regular tooth extraction. It is mostly indicated when the tooth is extensively damaged beyond repair and can’t be saved by other methods. The recovery time for regular extraction is quicker and is completed within 2-3 days. However, the recovery post-extraction depends on the initial status of your teeth and the severity of the infection for which extraction has been done.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

It is a minor surgical tooth extraction for impacted or partially erupted third molars. The surgery involves incision of the soft tissues and bone surrounding the third molar.

Steps of Tooth Extraction – Tooth Extraction in Matunga

  • The first step is to anaesthetise your tooth and surrounding tissues to make them numb
  • Once sufficient levels of anaesthesia are achieved, your tooth is loosened with the help of
  • We might need to incise the soft tissue overlying the tooth in wisdom tooth extraction before loosening it.
  • Once the tooth is loosened, dental forceps lift it from the socket.

Aftercare of Tooth Extraction in Matunga

  • It’s normal to experience some bleeding after tooth extraction. A gauze piece is placed over the extraction site to control it
  • Bite on the gauze piece firmly for about 20-30 minutes. If bleeding persists, you can replace the gauze with a new one and continue applying constant biting pressure.
  • Avoid spitting or rinsing forcefully for the first 24 hours, as this can dislodge the blood clot and hamper healing
  • Take all the medicines as prescribed by our team for speedy recovery
  • Use cold compressions on the face intermittently from outside to eliminate the chances of swelling
  • Instead of one pillow, use extra pillows to elevate the head at night to avoid unexpected bleeding
  • Shift to a soft diet for a few days till the initial healing is complete
  • Avoid hot and spicy food items as they hamper the healing
  • Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for healing.
  • After the first 24 hours, gently rinse your mouth with lukewarm saltwater to clean the food accumulation
  • Smoking and consuming alcohol can delay healing, hence must be avoided
